For many students, a certain pressure comes with the nearing of summer, especially depending on who you surround yourself with. Especially in a competitive time like this, the heat is on to find the right internship opportunity and fast. It definitely doesn’t help if you’re friends with that one person who always has a plan and early—we ALL know one of those.
If you feel like you’re late to the game, like you’re falling behind your peers or are running out of time, let me be the first (and hopefully not the last!) to tell you: YOU’RE NOT! And you’re not alone! Finding an internship or practicum is frustrating enough in normal times. Public health doesn’t follow the typical recruitment schedule of other fields, so it can be a longggggggg application process for many students looking.
So, take a deep breath. In and out. You’re going to figure it out. The right thing just hasn’t found you yet, but it will. Until then, try not to compare yourself to that one person or anyone else in your vicinity. I know, it’s hard! But, you are different students with different interests—so wouldn’t you be a great fit for different opportunities? Yours is out there, and I am sure it’s worth the wait.
